GIRLS NIGHT OUT
I cursed myself as I accidentally drop my pile of books on the staircase leading up to my room in the dorm. “Come let me help. Hey, you have anymore stuff to put into your room?” Fatin asked. “No, no, that’s about it. Where is Hana?”
“She is in your room, putting all the books into the shelves. What would you do without us, Fara?” Fatin grinned and helped me with some of books she was carrying.
I felt lucky as my best friends from my previous school were in the same dorm as I was. “ Okay, hey, want to get dinner somewhere later?” Fatin suggested. “We can check out this campus too.”
“I know there is the hawker centre near this place. I saw it while my dad drove here. Quite popular it seems. We can walk there,” I exclaimed and beamed. We met up later at the ground level of the dorm and ventured out for food.
We had a hearty dinner and packed some back. I then suggested that we took the long way back to the dorm so that we could check out the whole place. The rest agreed and we started our rendezvous.
After half an hour, we found ourselves walking around in circles in the dark campus. We decided to ask a guy who was standing nearby and asked him for direction. As we approached him, we could see that he was a handsome looking guy. He had a short hair, a pale complexion and big round eyes. He was dressed smartly, as if he was going somewhere. When he saw us, he broke out into a smile. We told him that we lost.
“Oh, you just need to take the steps there and walk further down. By the way, it’s not good for you girls to walk here alone at night. Some places are not well lit, so it could be dangerous,” the young man exclaimed. We thanked the senior and marched towards the steps. A few short minutes after our encounter with the senior we saw another senior. As we walked towards the senior, we noticed something uncanny about the senior.
“My God! It’s the same guy we saw before! How could it be? The senior we saw earlier was walking in the direction opposite us. How could he end up being here now?” I muttered under my breath.
We quickened our pace and walked pass the senior without looking at his face. We did not dare talk about him and continued on our way in silence.
“Look, look! A security guard! At last, let’s ask him!” Fatin pointed out.
The security guard appeared to be in his early twenties. He had a thin moustache and a tan complexion. He smiled as we darted towards him. “Woah, what are you girls doing here so late? It’s eleven plus already!” He paused and there was a bout of silence. I told the security guard about the episode. He shook his head and warned us to be more careful the next time.
“This place is pretty haunted. And the boy you described to me just now actually died a few years ago and now he haunts the campus. But, don’t worry, he does not harm others but merely helps those who needs it,” the security added. We looked at each other in turn. We quickened our steps and were relieved to finally reach our dorm unhurt.
The next day, all of us gathered at the cafeteria for breakfast. Suddenly, we saw something that totally shocked us. The senior we saw last night was sitting opposite us, eating his breakfast. “ How could a ghost show himself in the morning and eat in front of us?” I questioned Fatin. Just then, another senior sauntered by and sat beside the ‘ghost’.
“Twins? Sheesh, all this while we thought than he was……but the security guard said ……” Fatin remarked. We then paid close attention to what Hana about to say. “Girls, check out this old campus magazine.”
“Look, this guy here died in accident three years ago. He looks familiar,” Hana scrutinized the blurry picture in the old magazine. I snatched the magazine away from Hana and examined the picture. I gawked at the picture and stared at my two friends. “It’s the security guard we saw yesterday. He was a student in the campus and was involved in an accident three years ago. He died on the exact spot we saw him yesterday.
